“INS Shardul” carrying 190 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen & 1200 oxygen cylinders from Kuwait arrived Mangaluru













NMPT handles fifth Naval Ship in the region “INS Shardul” carrying 190 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen & 1200 oxygen cylinders from Kuwait.


NMPT today handled 05th Navy vessel “INS SHARDUL” which carried approximately 190 MT of liquid medical oxygen & 1200 oxygen cylinders from Kuwait. The cargoes were loaded on the naval vessel at Shuwaikh Port and sailed out on 15.05.2021 from Kuwait. 



Till date 05 naval vessels have arrived at NMPT carrying medical oxygen & equipments under the Samudra Setu-II operation launched by the Indian Navy. The vessel carried 07 no.s Liquid Medical Oxygen filled ISO containers of net weight 20 MT each, 60 no.s pallets of oxygen cylinders of one ton each & 02 no.s semi-trailers filled with 25 tons of liquid medical oxygen each.



 The vessel was berthed on highest priority & NMPT extended all its resources for berthing of the vessels and handling of 7 oxygen containers, 60 pallets containing oxygen cylinders & 02 no.s of semi-trailers on zero charges as per the directives of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.

Shri Pratap Reddy, Addl. DGP, Law & Order, Chairman, State LMO Coordination Committee, Bangalore was present to oversee the unloading of the medical aid. Chairman, NMPT, Dr. A. V. Ramana, along with Dy. Commissioner, Dr. Rajendra. K.V., IAS, Dy. Chairman, Shri. K. G. Nath, DIG Venkatesh. S. B, Commander Coast Guard, senior officers of the Port, Navy, Coast Guard, Customs & District Administration were present at the operation site to monitor smooth disembarking of the cargo off the vessels without any delays. 



Chairman, NMPT appreciated the various services extended by the Stake Holders of the Port for free of charges. One of the Stevedores M/s Sri Ganesh Shipping Agency supported in safe handling and transit of oxygen tankers & cylinders from the Port for zero charge. 



The medical oxygen will be utilized to meet the State’s oxygen exigency. State & District Administration will decide on the further distribution of the Oxygen tanks & cylinders.
